How to Brief Custom Elastic: A Checklist for Width, Colour and Branding

A complete custom elastic brief gets you a faster, more accurate quote. You do not need every technical answer before you start — construction, width, colour, branding and quantity are the fields that matter most, and “not sure” is a fine answer for any of them.

Why a complete brief speeds things up

Every gap in a brief becomes a question we have to ask before we can quote — and every question adds a day or two to your timeline. Sending the checklist below up front, even partly filled in, gets your enquiry into feasibility review immediately.

The custom elastic brief checklist

  • Construction — braided, woven, knitted, jacquard, or “not sure, please advise”. If you know the closest stocked equivalent, name it.
  • Width — in millimetres. A range is fine if you have not settled on an exact figure.
  • Colour — a name or, ideally, a Pantone reference. Screen colours vary, so a reference code avoids back-and-forth.
  • Branding or pattern — is this a plain custom colour, or does it need a logo or repeat pattern woven or printed in? Attach vector artwork (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) if you have it.
  • Quantity and repeat frequency — your target quantity per width and colour, and whether this is a one-off or a line you will reorder.
  • Application — waistband, bra band, activewear, saddlery, or another use, so we can match stretch and recovery to the job.
  • Target date — when you need stock in hand. This helps us assess feasibility; it is not a confirmed delivery commitment until it is in your quote.

What happens after you send your brief

Your brief goes through a short process: we review it for feasibility, confirm what is achievable and quote it, you approve the specification and commercial terms, then we run production and deliver within Australia. See the full walkthrough on the Custom Elastic page.

A worked example

“35 mm woven jacquard, black base with a single-colour logo woven in, matched to Pantone 186C, for an activewear waistband. Target 2,000 m across two colourways, reordering roughly twice a year. Need first stock in 10 weeks.” That single paragraph covers construction, width, colour, branding, application, quantity, repeat frequency and target date — everything needed to start a feasibility review.

If you are not sure about the technical details

Say so. Tell us what the elastic needs to do — where it sits on the garment, how it should feel, how it will be washed — and we will help translate that into a construction and specification before quoting.

FAQs

Do I need artwork before I brief a custom logo?

It helps, but is not required to start. A rough sketch or description is enough for an initial feasibility check; vector artwork is needed before production.

What if I do not know the exact width or colour yet?

Give us a range or a reference product and we will narrow it down with you.

Can I brief more than one specification at once?

Yes. List each construction, width and colour combination separately with its own quantity.

Is a target date a confirmed delivery date?

No. It helps us assess the project; the confirmed schedule is set out in your quote.

Do you offer physical samples to check colour or feel?

No, we do not run a sample service. Be as specific as possible in your brief — Pantone references and clear artwork reduce the risk of a mismatch.
